Course Attributes SFSU SF State Studies: Amer Ethnic & Racial Minorities, Lower Division English Language Communication and Critical Thinking (Area A) Students take three classes (9 units), one each from A1, A2, and A3. To be used for fulfillment of General Education Requirements, Area A1, A2, and A3 courses must be completed with a CR or C-.


Prerequisite: GE Area A2 with a CR or C- or higher. Analysis and exploration of how children learn from the local, natural, and built environment. Examine the practice of teaching social studies and science through the use of local historical and educational sites through culturally responsive perspectives.


Prerequisite: GE Area A2 or consent of the instructor. Methods and principles for close reading literature in major genres, especially fiction, drama, and poetry. Examination and analysis of a wide variety of literary styles in works from a diverse range of both major and lesser-known writers. Topics to be specified in the Class Schedule.

Examination of health disparities in sexual and gender minority communities with a particular focus on the impact of stigma faced by LGBTQI individuals, families, and communities. Various aspects of health and well-being will be explored.
